Marketing Music With a Booklet

As more people are listening to music digitally, it seems as though the CD booklet is being forgotten since less people are buying CDs in record bars. Not too long ago, however, the CD booklet (and previously, the record album cover) was a very essential part of marketing musicians.

Album covers or booklets served several purposes including publicizing the music product, showing the artist's intentions, and showing additional information about the work.

Over the years there have there have been some memorable album covers like the Andy Warhol print banana on The Velvet Underground & Nico. There's also The Beatle's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts' Band's veritable who's who collage of celebrities. Nirvana's swimming baby on the cover of Nevermind has even been parodied on a CD booklet for Al Yankovic's "Best of" album.

The main idea for a CD cover is to make sure that a certain CD can stand out from among many brightly-colored albums on a record store rack. The other parts of a CD design are the following the tray card, the face, and the liner notes.

The tray card is basically what you see at the back of the CD case and normally has the track listing. Some artists will put a design on the opposite side of the card, too.

The CD face is basically the image on the CD itself, which can be printed on or etched.

Finally, the liner notes, or the booklet is a little "book" that has the album cover in front, and production notes, acknowledgments, liner notes, and lyrics inside. This part is usually designed to give the listener more insight into the album and the process that the artists went through to produce it.

While there aren't as many people buying actual CDs these days as they prefer the ease of buying digital copies of songs, it still doesn't mean that CD booklet is completely obsolete. It's still a useful marketing tool for music and software CDs which explains why booklets templates and design tools are still common.

A tip for coming up with a great booklet for CDs or any other purpose is to make sure they come out vibrant with the help of a booklet printing expert. Working with an online print company who understands booklet printing means that it won't come out bleary or co
